Venue Review: The Sad Cafe

If you’re in New Hampshire and looking for a good show, chances are that there will be one at The Sad Café. Located in Plaistow, New Hampshire, The Sad Café is one of the very few small venues in New Hampshire. Out of Rocko’s Bar and Grill, Ground Zero and newly opened Stadium Ten Pin, The Sad Café is one of the best. The best thing about it is that it’s not like the other New Hampshire venues.

Thrice Beggars CD Review

Thrice has a reputation of having an intense rock sound, with heavy distorted guitar, and being capable of writing some very difficult music. There’s no doubt in anyone’s mind that there is a massive amount of talent that rests within the musicians in this extremely skilled and talented rock band. Lucky for us, the band has recently graced us with another album for us to all enjoy. Beggars was released on September 15th. The band changed it up with this new album, showing off a new sound that’s a lot different from their hardcore sound that fans are used to.

Paramore Islington Show Review

It's that moment, just before a show begins, when everybody stops. The lights dim, the music is cut and the chatter dies as quick as a candle snuffed out. Every single eye grows wide and flicks to the stage and for that split moment every person in the room is still. From this moment on everything outside of the room is forgotten, we forget out troubles and we forget our 'status' because for this next hour we are all the same. Everyone in the room is there for the same reason and the only thing that matters is the music.

US #4: Lets Get It

Let's begin; a little while ago in 2008, in Dayton, OH lived a group of friends who wanted to make something much bigger than their local music scene. Sounds like a familiar story that never gets that happy ending right? In this case, this story is anything but familiar. Like other bands they began playing music for the enjoyment but they soon realized they could write music that would inspire other people to chase their dreams too. Born from an aspiration for inspiration Joe (vocals) , Taylor (bass) , Tyler (guitar & vocals) , Christopher (guitar & keys) and Kevin (drums) formed Lets Get It. The boys began with a whole load of determination and passion for music. Along with their wide range of influences they were able to create a healthy blend between pop, rock and even hip-hop sounds. This allowed them to quickly gain and expand their online following of fans and friends. Just after the bands one year anniversary they were signed to Fearless Records which is home to popular bands such as Mayday Parade, The Maine and Plain White T's.

VMA 2009 Recap

At nine o’clock sharp on the night of Sunday September 13, the curtains opened at Radio City Music Hall in New York City for the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards. Madonna walked out into a spotlight on a dark stage to make a speech about her friendship with Michael Jackson, as well as state some background on the King of Pop’s life. Her speech led into the best dance number of the night, a tribute to the King himself, led by his sister Janet. After the tribute, host Russel Brand came out and gave a speech of his own, one with a comedic side to it. Brand hosted the VMAs last year and said many things that should not have been said, offending many and appalling others. This year, however, Brand was not the one causing the drama.

Cage The Elephant CD Review

Cage the Elephant started out in Bowling Green, Kentucky, where they were originally known as Perfect Confusion. They consist of Matt Shultz (vocals), Brad Shultz (guitar), Lincoln Parish (lead guitar), Daniel Tichenor (bass, backing vocals), and Jared Champion (drums). The bands debut CD is one of those albums that is perfect to rock out to or just chill. It has that grinding rock sound but a groovy kinda undertone thanks to Matt Shultz vocals. The album was produced by Jay Joyce and released on Relentless Records on May 19th 2009 in the United States. Any fan of bands such as The White Stripes or The Airborne Toxic Event will need to add this album to their collection.

Know Them Before They’re Famous: The Ready Set

As the alternative-pop scene is taking off, it has become increasingly popular to see bands who were originally alternative-rock splicing their songs with synthesized beats. But in scene where musical genres are quickly blending and bands are quickly adapting to stay on the cutting edge, it is hard to stand out. This is not the case for The Ready Set, a one-man alternative pop band, which is the creation of Fort Wayne, Indiana’s Jordan Witzigreuter. Pulling inspiration from influences that occur in life and love, Witzigreuter has created a truly unique sound that will quickly push him to the front of the alternative-pop scene. Using the alias The Ready Set, young Witzigreuter writes and records all his own music.

Venue Review: Six Flags (New England)

What could be better than a concert at an amusement park? Well, nothing really, especially when it’s Six Flags New England located in Agawam, Massachusetts. Six Flags is filled with roller coasters ranging from The Superman to the Flashback to The Mind Eraser. When I went to my first concert at Six Flags in 2008 for the mtvU VMA Tour that featured Bamboo Shoots, Tyga and All Time Low, I had no idea what to expect. This year, I was lucky enough to go to the mtvU VMA Tour again with The White Tie Affair and All Time Low. Luckily, this year they changed some things from the year before that was for the better.
