After getting much attention from their first release of their Self-Titled EP, Dallas, Texas band Artist Vs Poet now releases their new album called Favorite Fix and I have to say it’s an album I enjoyed from start to finish. When I think of this pop rock genre of music I think of bands I enjoy like All Time Low and Forever The Sickest Kids. Well Artist Vs Poet is easily another band to add to the list.
The album starts out with the single Damn Rough Night which the band released a preview EP of this album for called Damn Rough Night EP. It’s a very catchy song, like most of album, in which the band sings about turning 21 as the song title describes. Then the album continues with Car Crash which is easily one of my favorite songs off the album. It’s so ridiculously catchy if it’s not one of the albums upcoming singles I will very shocked.
The next song on the album is Adorable. Not one of my favorites of the album, but still a nice slower song that brings the album down from the fast upbeat tracks before it. This song is simply about a girl whose, well, I’m pretty sure the song title gave this one away from the start. The next track is the title track, Favorite Fix which is one of my other favorite tracks off the record. It’s theme kind of sounds like the same type of thing Ke$ah tried to go for with her track Your Love Is My Drug, while in this song, this girl that Artist Vs Poet is singing about is their Favorite Fix.
The song Unconscious Reality was so close to being one of my favorites off the record. So it’s definitely getting a notable reference for almost making it. The song reminds me of someone thinking about someone so much they can’t sleep but they’re in a state where thinking about this person is all the matters. We’re All The Same seemed like a song that I got into, but that I wish was a little bit faster pace. It seems a little too slow for what they were trying to get across.
As the album hits the halfway mark we hear So Much I Never Said, my third favorite track on the album. This song is about someone who is away from the person they care about and they feel like the only thing that matters is getting back to them to tell them how they really feel. As another slow song comes on, Miserable Loving You is a song that’s about someone who’s in love but the person they’re in love with won’t give them the time of day and they only wish they had a single chance.
Broke But I’m Not Broken is about someone at a point in their life when they’re away from everything they know they care about and need but they won’t go back to it, so they’re making themselves miserable. I think this song has some of the best lyrics in the whole album. He’s Just Not Me is exactly what it sounds like. It’s being sung to a girl who’s with someone else when they know she’s not happy and that she would be better off with them.
The last slow song on the album, Alive, is probably my least favorite song on the album. It just really didn’t stand out to me lyrically or musically as much as the other songs did. The album ends with the track Giving Yourself Away. I enjoyed this track, not as much as the others but it’s a decent end to the album.
Overall I really enjoyed this album. Not hearing much as Artist Vs Poet before giving this a listen I was unsure if I was going to like it or not, but after a good three or four full listens I think we’ll will see much from this band in the future.
