SHRED: Who are the members of A Time For Everything and what do each of you play?
A Time For Everything: We’ve got Nate on the drums, Dylan sings and plays rhythm guitar, Al plays bass and we are trying to get her to sing some and Alex plays lead guitar.
SHRED: When and how did A Time For Everything become a band?
A Time For Everything: It all started about this time last year, fall 08. Nate and Al got together about this time and asked Alex if he wanted to join in December. That worked out, so we starting jamming for a while until we got Dylan in January 2009. We finished our first set of songs in May, and played our first two shows Memorial Day weekend and went from there.
SHRED: How did you come up with the name for the band?
A Time For Everything: Nate came up with the name while he was mowing the lawn and listening to Misery Signals. As weird as the story is, it worked, and everyone agreed on A Time For Everything.
SHRED: Have you always wanted to be musicians?
A Time For Everything: Most of us started playing our instruments back in 4th or 5th grade, and all of us discovered our love for music somewhere in that bracket. Our musical influences and goals have evolved over the years, and we are now at a point where to make a career out of music would be the ideal job.
SHRED: Is there any band or certain genre of music that influences your music?
A Time For Everything: I don’t know if you could say ‘certain genre’, but anything based off of rock and pop has been there to help us set goals as far as our sound goes. Band influences range from the super local scene to huge touring bands. Some examples include All Time Low, Boys Like Girls, Hit the Lights, Four Year Strong, Houston Calls, Blink 182, Saosin, Thrice, Underoath, Gallows, Secret and Whisper, Senses Fail, Still Remains, and many, many more.
SHRED: Is there anyone who is the main songwriter in the band or is it a group process?
A Time For Everything: Dylan will come to practice sometimes with a great idea for a song, including a general guitar part and all the lyrics. We then pick apart each of our parts as a band and experiment until we’ve found the sound and feel of the song we are looking for.
SHRED: A Time For Everything released an EP entitled Think Back this passed summer, How was the recording process?
A Time For Everything: That we did, it was really cool. We went up to Baked Beans Recording Studio in Harrison, ME. Regardless of the funny name, it’s a good place and Alan Bean knows what he’s doing. 8 Hours later, we were headed home with a hard copy of our newly produced songs. A little while later we had copies made, album artwork produced, and a release to iTunes. It’s definitely a great feeling seeing your own band on iTunes for the first time, and we’re overall happy with how everything has gone.
SHRED: Do you have a favorite song off the EP?
A Time For Everything: It’s hard to pick a clear favorite, but Yesterday’s Tomorrow and Habits are probably our proudest works.
SHRED: Do you have any plans for writing another EP or album in the upcoming months?
A Time For Everything: We absolutely plan on releasing more music, but we have gone back and forth between whether it’s going to be another EP or full length album. Regardless of what we decide, we’ve started the writing process for a new record and are scheduled to record some new stuff this December.
SHRED: I noticed on your MySpace page that you guys are only fifteen, does that make things difficult with playing shows or just in general?
A Time For Everything: Most of us are, yeah. While it doesn’t make shows especially difficult, it is frustrating at times because of ride limitations and how far from home we can go without giving up other responsibilities. Luckily, all of our families are super supportive of us, so it works out well. Also, our new manager (Dubs from Stay) has really taught us a lot, and his help has been invaluable.
SHRED: A Time For Everything will be play shows around New England soon, are you guys pumped?
A Time For Everything: Yes! We’ve just been playing in ME and NH at this point, and it’ll be sweet to break out more and be able to play in other parts of New England. It should be a good time and we are really excited about it.
SHRED: What’s a random fact that your fans might not know about the band?
A Time For Everything: During practice, we’ve knocked off almost everything on Al’s shelves. This includes everything from star wars action figures to open Mt. Dew cans to football shot glasses. How we’re still allowed to practice there, nobody quite understands.
SHRED: If you could create your dream tour with any bands, dead or live, who would they be and why?
A Time For Everything: A dream tour for us would vary a bit by person, but we’d love to share the stage with some bands like: At The Drive In, Four Year Strong, Gallows, Hit the Lights, Houston Calls, I See Stars, Never Shout Never, Saosin, Secret and Whisper, Senses Fail, Sing It Loud, Sparks the Rescue, Still Remains, Sum 41, and many more. That would be probably the biggest tour ever, but that’d be fine with us.
SHRED: What do you when you’re not writing music or playing shows?
A Time For Everything: We’re some of the busiest kids you’ll meet. Between school, practice, and shows, some of us are in the school jazz band, and participate in plenty of after school activities. And while the rest of us are doing that, Alex is off playing almost every sport in the book. Also, most of us hit up the slopes whenever we can and snowboard. As you can tell, we’re almost always busy.
SHRED: Any future plans for A Time For Everything in 2010 yet?
A Time For Everything: As of right now, the only definite thing we have is opening for The Upwelling, and some new merch coming along. We’re also scheduled to release some new songs, so keep your eyes and ears open for that!
SHRED: Is there anything else you would like to add?
A Time For Everything: We just want to thank the parents and every one of our fans who continue to support us along the way. Also, keep an eye on our MySpace for what’s going on with us, and of course check us out on iTunes if you like what you hear
. Come visit us at a show some time too!
