The Whigs – In The Dark Album Review

Let me introduce you to The Whigs; a three piece rock band from Athens, Georgia. Despite their initial success on the live scene after forming back in 2002, the band - then made up of Parker Gispert, Julian Dorio, and Hank Sullivant (now replaced by Tim Deaux) - waited three years to drop their first full length. An unfavourable experience with a major label early on in their career led to the trio independently releasing their first album Give 'Em All A Fat Lip in late 2005 . In a truly 'Do It Yourself' manner the guys recorded the album in an empty frat house using equipment they'd bought from internet auction site Ebay. Five years on and The Whigs have just released their third album, In The Dark (03/16/10) this time with the support of current label, AKO Records.

New Young Pony Club The Optimist CD Review

“We marry the dance ethic with the pop ethic, and make something that you can dance and sing along to.” - Yes, that’s how the five-piece Brit band New Young Pony Club puts their music into words, and it's about right. The new-wave band is from London, England forming back in 2004. Their mix of a rock and dance sound is quite intriguing, but very different to most music in the charts today. The album, The Optimist is their most recent effort, released on March 8th, 2010.

Joanna Newsom Have One On Me CD Review

It’s hard to find bands and artists that aren’t trying to be like someone else in the industry, but that actually try and break the mold, start their own footsteps for someone else to follow, and make music and a genre and sound that is uniquely just them, or incomparable. JoannaNewsom is an artist that does dare to be different, does break the mold, and does start their own footsteps.

The Venetia Fair The Circus Review

From Boston, Massachusetts come five musicians that together form The Venetia Fair. The name was extremely unfamiliar to me, but I ended up questioning why I had not heard them before after taking a listen to their album, The Circus. The band creates a sound together that really drew me in. Classifying the group into a genre of music is quite a challenge, for they have a mix of rock, punk, hardcore, and basically any other genre you can think up. Needless to say, the band is definitely crazy, but what makes up for it is the fact that they are also crazy good.

Fireflight – For Those Who Wait CD Review

If you’re a fan of Family Force 5, Disciple, or other Christian Rock bands that were on The Scars Remain tour, you may have been lucky enough to be in the presence of Fireflight, the Christian Rock band from Eustis Florida. The group has a huge passion for what they do, with powerful lyrics, and a powerful sound that’s very apparent in their music. Dawn Michele is the front woman vocalist, with Wendy Drennen on the bass guitar and Glenn Drennen on guitar. Justin Cox is the guitarist and also helps with background vocals, and Phee Shorb on the drumset. The album For Those Who Wait released February 9th, along with the video for “Desperate”.

Go Periscope Self Titled CD Review

Seattle band Go Periscope formed back in 2008, bursting onto the scene to showcase their original synthesized melodies and beats. The duo, made up of Florin Mehedinti and Joshua Frazier, have been playing instruments since they were young, and as they got older, just kept getting better! Their new self titled CD definitely has select songs that really does the band justice, and shows what they’re all about.
