Averman Hide Your Girlfriends EP Review

By: Jess Grenier

Formed in 2007, the five-piece punk band Averman from Virginia Beach, VA released their first ever EP Hide Your Girlfriends back in October ’09. They bring a unique sound to the punk genre with their vocals and guitar riffs. Being signed to a small indie label the band was able to release this EP. They’re definitely bring punk back just like New Found Glory and Blink-182 did.

The EP starts off with a song called ‘”Dictators” which really sets the record off. It comes in with a bam-feeling intro and keeps that feeling throughout the song. The rest of the song flows nicely into the next song “Boner Jamz ’09.” I feel as though this song of one of the songs that teenagers can most relate to. This song has a contagious beat to it which you almost subconsciously nod your head along to the beat.

The song following that one is called “Unleash The Cobras” starts off with a different tone but still keeps the flow going. Everything fits in this song, which makes it like an orgasm for the ears. “Hey Girl” starts off slower than the first three songs but still shows just how much work these put into this EP. I feel like “Hey Girl” could possible become their most popular song. Finally the last song on the EP is called “Sweep The Leg.” This song was a superb choice to be the last song on here. It helps close out the record with the different contagious beat and bam factor.

After listening to this entire EP, I have to say these are some talented boys. I’m not a huge fan of punk music but I definitely loved theirs. To listen to these songs you can head over to their MySpace to check them out.
