Fresh from opening for Bon Jovi at the 02 Arena London, which only comes around once in a lifetime. The UK band Young Guns are set to be the next up and coming successful band with their mix of heavy riffs, catchy guitar hooks and emotive lyrics. The five piece hailing from High Wycombe have just released in the UK their first full length album ‘All Our Kings Are Dead’. Young Guns have previously only released one other small EP and two singles so for the band this first album has to make an impression, and it definitely does.

Straight out of Canada, this powerpop band is starting to find its way onto the radars of people everywhere. I recently came across this band on Purevolume.com while searching for new music to listen to. Once I stared listening to them, I just became hooked.

What do you get when you cross the ruminative, lullaby hum of your most intimate daydreams, and the whirlwind sensation of being lost in a place unknown? Reverie Sound Revue, of course. Canadian bands have a reputation for being underrated, and frankly, Reverie Sound Revue is no exception. The quintet formed in 2002 in Calgary, Alberta and have only recently released their first full-length self-titled album last summer. Headed by lead vocalist Lisa Lobsinger – best known for her collaborations with Broken Social Scene – and backed by the talented John-Marcel de Waal (drums), Patrick Walls (guitar), Bryce Gracey (bass), and Marc De Pape (guitar), Reverie Sound Revue have created a unique indie sound that can only be described as magical.

It’s no surprise that Anais Mitchell is able to stand out among the vast sea of singer/songwriters. Since her humble beginnings in the farmlands of Addison County, Virginia, she has gained a modest but dedicated following who admire the passion and sincerity in her folk songs. She was signed to Waterbug Records until 2007, when she signed with Ani DiFranco’s label called Righteous Babe Records.

For a band signed to Universal, Lydia is certainly able to retain their indie-band persona. It’s a good thing too, because you won’t hear their ambient rock on the radio too often, so they might as well stay loyal to their small but devoted fanbase. They gained considerable popularity in their hometown, Gilbert, Arizona before [...]

Some bands have been around together longer than others and some are just starting out. Many of these bands that I have seen and met are currently attending Berklee College, which makes me wonder how many more bands this college will produce. The Alibi District is just one of the talented bands from Berklee.

The bio on their website tells the story of the band formation as a veritable fruit salad of events (the roles played by a banana, a guava, and an avocado) but Akudama’s music sounds less like the produce section of a grocery store and more like your grandmother’s record player on the back porch in summer, if the records were chosen by that cool older cousin you’ve always looked up to.

The Sophomore Beat, now a five-piece band from Maine has finally released their freshmen album. Released at the being of this month, the band is hoping to finally set things off with Hi, Technology. After already releasing their EP For The Time Being in 2007 the band has progressed with forming their signature sound. After listening to this album all I have to say is that I’m proud of them for completing such a great album.
