Tegan And Sara Alligator Review

By: Erica Lenti If you thought “Alligator” – the latest single from Canadian indie-rock sensations Tegan and Sara couldn’t get any catchier, think again. The sister act have experienced a great deal of success since the release of their 2009 hit album, Sainthood. Between landing a summer tour with Grammy-nominated Paramore, and volunteering their time to charitable [...]

Motion City Soundtrack Show Review

“My Dinosaur Life” was suggested as one of the best albums of 2010 back in January when it was released and some even say the best. Motion City Soundtrack have had an amazing rebound in the music scene with this record and it shows on their recent headlining tours, first the Dino Inititave and now the tour that brought them to Rocketown in Nashville, TN on April 12th with Fun., A Rocket To The Moon, and Sing It Loud!

The Middle East Downstairs Venue Review

Residing right next to The Middle East Upstairs lays The Middle East Downstairs right in Cambridge, Mass. The two are divided by The Middle East Restaurant and completely different venues (in the same place of course). While the Upstairs has events like Throwed and have more local shows, the downstairs has mainly bigger shows with more known bands.

Nick Santino/Semester Abroad Farewell Show Review

March 12th, The First Congregational Church in Braintree was the place to be. Not only was it the farewell show for local fan favorite Semester Abroad, but it was also a hometown show for Nick Santino of A Rocket To The Moon! Along with those two talented acts, local main stays like Lannen Fall, The Bay State and The Blue Pages rocked the crowd along with a surprise acoustic set from Anthony of Stay! There couldn't be a more energetic crowd anywhere else last night!

Band You Should Know: Skybox

Skybox is a band of four boys from Chicago that sounds more like sunset at a carnival than Illinois’ usual pop punk offerings. Their first album, Arco Iris, was released in 2006 and after touring the country and gathering an underground following they released “Morning After Cuts” in January of 2010.

Alexz Johnson Voodoo Album Review

Canadian singer/songwriter Alexz Johnson has been on a non-stop rollercoaster ride the past few years. After her hit television show Instant Star ended, she signed to Capitol Records eager to pursue a music career. When Capitol merged with Virgin Records, Alexz was dropped. Refusing to give up, she signed to Epic Records only to be dropped again. Refusing to give up, Johnson wrote all new music and recorded independently, finally finding Orange Lounge Records to distribute her new records. Over three years later, here we are with the masterpiece called Voodoo.

The Audition Great Danger CD Review

When people talk about The Audition they would probably only be able to tell you of at least two of the band’s songs from their back catalogue of albums that they like. This is a great shame as The Audition have released some great songs from either their debut album “Controversy Loves Company”, 2008’s “Champion” or 2009’s “Self Titled Album” .

The Whigs – In The Dark Album Review

Let me introduce you to The Whigs; a three piece rock band from Athens, Georgia. Despite their initial success on the live scene after forming back in 2002, the band - then made up of Parker Gispert, Julian Dorio, and Hank Sullivant (now replaced by Tim Deaux) - waited three years to drop their first full length. An unfavourable experience with a major label early on in their career led to the trio independently releasing their first album Give 'Em All A Fat Lip in late 2005 . In a truly 'Do It Yourself' manner the guys recorded the album in an empty frat house using equipment they'd bought from internet auction site Ebay. Five years on and The Whigs have just released their third album, In The Dark (03/16/10) this time with the support of current label, AKO Records.

The Dropkick Murphys Live on Lansdowne Album Review

Boston is one of the few St. Patrick’s Day meccas that you must visit once in your life. The city seems to come alive, wear green and get drunk when this holiday comes around. Dropkick Murphys commemorate this by playing a few shows every year. I went a few years ago on St. Patrick’s Day and it’s an experience that doesn’t even compare to any other celebration. Everyone’s friendly to everyone, singing along and just having a great time.

Middle East Upstairs Venue Review

Settled in the suburb of Cambridge, Massachusetts is the popular venue/restaurant The Middle East. The venue actually consists of two different places where concerts take place. The Middle East Upstairs and The Middle East Downstairs. Even though they’re both at the same place they’re completely different. In this article though, i'm going to be focusing on the upstairs part of The Middle East.
