It has been a while since the rock scene has heard a group as true to its roots as the Red Hot Chili Peppers, as groove oriented as Incubus, or as lyrically driven as Dave Mathews Band. However, all that changed with the arrival of Cure for Static a four-piece alternative rock band from Boston, Massachusetts. Cure for Static is a band that combines the groove-rock sound with singer/songwriter elements while avoiding sounding specifically similar to any of the previously mentioned bands. This combining of influences has allowed CFS to make melodic, easily enjoyable music with a slight edge.
Cure for Static consists of Jarrett Clayman (vocals), Tom Feeley (guitar), Brian Schon (drums), and Bill Batten (bass). This line up has only been playing together for 6 months, but the band has been around for about 2 years; previously playing under the name Djatmaterra. For an unsigned band, Cure for Static has already posted some impressive numbers that stem from their impressive ability to self-promote their exceedingly mature sound. They have over 100,000 plays on MySpace as well a slew of shows around the New England area.
CFS knows its demographics and clearly plays to its strengths. The band recently headlined a sold-out show at the Middle East Upstairs and previously packed the room at Harper’s Ferry. Continuing with the rock club venues, CFS played sold out shows at the Hard Rock Cafe and Bill’s Bar in Boston, MA. The band has also concentrated on the college scene; opening for Rahzel at Clark University, performing at the WBRS 35th anniversary show at Brandeis University. These remarkable achievements are not without merit; Cure For Static has live performances that are truly an inspiration. The band always plays with a level of high energy and engaging passion that reflects how much they love playing music and performing for fans.
It is clear that with an EP out and a strong touring schedule, Cure for Static is soon to become dynamic in the music industry. So if you want to return to the roots of rock and re-experience the true sound of alternative music, check out Cure for Static and claim that you knew them before they were famous. You can see them on tour throughout the New England area in the upcoming months.
