Usually, artists that tend to get nominated or even win awards are fairly well known, especially after they spend weeks on our tv screens battling their rivals on the music charts. It’s a rarity to see an artist rise to fame after topping the BBC Sound of 2010 poll and then going on to win the Critics Choice Award at the BRITS all before their debut album is even released. Only tremendously talented artists are able to achieve awards that take others a lifetime to obtain so early in their career, with this being said let me introduce you to the newest UK music sensation, Miss Ellie Goulding.
Goulding is a talented 23 year old singer-songwriter and guitarist who was born in Lyonshall, England. After taking a gap year out of university to pursue her music career she developed her own sound with the help of Electropop musician FrankMusik on the track “Wish I Stayed”. She then focused on her own music, signing to Polydor Records – home of popular artists such as La Roux, Girls Aloud and The Kaiser Chiefs – in September 2009. Her debut single “Under The Sheets” was released on the independent label Neon Gold Records.
After her single received fairly heavy airplay Goudling then set out on a tour of the UK supporting Little Boots in October 2009 and she has just now finished her tour alongside chart toppers Passion Pit. In mid March Ellie is embarking on her first headlining Tour of the UK and has been confirmed for Newcastle’s Evolution Festival as well as the popular V Festival held in both Essex and Staffordshire.
Her debut album “Lights” was mainly produced by Starsmith and was released in early March of this year. It went straight to number one in the UK charts and reached twelve in the Irish Albums Chart. This was to be a promising album with positive reviews from the likes of BBC Music and Metro Newspaper. Ellie herself said her album “is made up of songs that all started on a guitar over a period of about two years. A number of the songs vent romantic victories and failures” If you haven’t yet heard it be sure to check out this ten-track full length! You won’t be left feeling disappointed.
