Currently, the alternative rock genre is splintered into tiny subgenres that are quickly becoming oversaturated with identical talent as original as their matching vests and deep v-neck t-shirts. However, despite the state of the current music industry, there is a band that stands out due to their ability to blend distinct sounds from various subgenres into a mature sound. Every You, a four-piece rock band from Davie, Florida, has blended the sound of pop rock with the vocals of progressive rock to create a truly unique sound.
Every You is composed of Mike Shaffer (bass), Matt Burns (guitar & vocals), Josh McDonald (lead guitar), and Alex Weinberg (drums). The majority of the band mates were in bands previous to the formation of Every You, explaining the vast range of sounds explored by the band. Their hard rock vocals and progressive breakdowns are partnered with an uplifting sound that carries any listener from track to track, allowing them to experience a true rock sound that seems to be missing from the alternative scene.
Every You is a band that is already on the move, preparing to take their musical career to the next level. In the past four months the band released an EP titled A Change of Scene, was voted one of PureVolume’s Top 20 Unsigned Bands of 2009, and began an extensive tour throughout the south. These achievements are not without merit; the band has been working extensively in perfecting its sound and as a result, has begun to become noticed by industry personnel. Every You turned to Paul Leavitt (The Dangerous Summer, Senses Fail, All Time Low) to produce A Change of Scene; a producer who has worked with bands on both sides and is able to understand the synthesis that Every You is trying to achieve.
With the impressive credentials that Every You has achieved as an unsigned band, it will come as no surprise if a major label picks them up in the coming months. Currently, the band is in the middle of a tour including stops in Florida, Texas, Georgia, and Louisiana. In the future, the band mates plan to continue to tour (including a stop at the South By Southwest), write material for a full-length, and just have some fun. In the end, this is a band worth checking out if you like any subgenre of rock along the continuum between harder rock to power pop.
