I interviewed Adam and Zacky from To Write A Riot in late September 2009 with the assistance of Kelly Cline. We have the ten-twelve minute serious interview and then about an hour of completely random stories and laughs. Only select portions of the extra hour were posted on Shred a week after the interview posted. If you heard the whole thing you’d understand why I love this interview. Adam, Zacky and the rest of To Write A Riot are hilarious. I can’t wait for them to be in the area again, for a video interview is a must.

I’ve done way too many interviews to be able to narrow it down to just one favorite! There were a lot of really interesting ones though. I really enjoy ones where the bands and tour managers were generally nice dudes. Broadway, Family Force 5 and Conditions were all super nice guys. I think as long as the band wants to be there to do the interview and try to make it fun for themselves, the viewers and myself that it’s a favorite interview in my book.

My favourite interview of 2009 has to be the interview with Azriel. I’d conducted email interviews before but this was my first in-person interview for Shred and I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. I’d seen Azriel put on a spectacular live performance back in February and was excited at the prospect of finding out more about them, straight from the horses mouth so to speak. I was, however, also pretty nervous as you never quite know what a band will be like, sometimes they can be fanastic to work with and some can be, well, difficult. Luckily for me Azriel were the former and the guys couldn’t have given better answers! It was great to hear detailed, honest and often hilarious answers that heightened my understanding not only of the band but of the industry too. Finding out about their struggle with bad luck alongside their passion and determination made me respect the band even more. It was inspiring to meet a group of talented musicians who were so humble and dedicated despite their setbacks, it’d be great to interview them again in the future!”

Although I have only done a few interviews this year, because I started in the fall, I would have to say that my favorite interview was the first one I ever did. I was able to sit down with the band Paper Route after their show with paramore at the House of Blues in Boston, MA. The way in which J.T Daly and Andy Smith let down their “artist” fronts and spoke to me really allowed for the interview to play out. It was really less of an interview and more of few moments of really getting to talk with and know the band. The interview consisted of a well received Hayley Williams interruption, as well as a bubble gum eating contest at the end that allowed me to feel at home among well-known musical artists. I have yet to meet more personable musicians who were willing to let a fan see their down to earth sides.

My favorite interview of 2009 was my interview with Emilie Autumn. I really didn’t know what to expect when it came to her personality. I was pleasantly surprised to discover how friendly and talkative she was. If everyone was like Emilie it would make the job of the interviewer much easier. She was very open and willing to talk with hardly any prompting. I found myself wishing we could continue talking for the rest of the night, but sadly there was a show to put on.

My favorite interview from 2009 would have to be the recent interview I did with Love Via Dance Machine. The reason behind choosing this interview is because it was at one of my favorite venues and it was my first in person interview. Plus, the band made the interview awesome too. We did the interview after the show was done and I have to say the show itself was epic besides the interview. Although it was absolutely freezing, we made it through the entire thing. My favorite part was when we were talking about things people might not know about them, when Lyle said he was a lefty and about half of the band didn’t even know that. It was pretty hilarious.
