Fireflight – For Those Who Wait CD Review

By: Ashley Pagano

If you’re a fan of Family Force 5, Disciple, or other Christian Rock bands that were on The Scars Remain tour, you may have been lucky enough to be in the presence of Fireflight, the Christian Rock band from Eustis Florida. The group has a huge passion for what they do, with powerful lyrics, and a powerful sound that’s very apparent in their music. Dawn Michele is the front woman vocalist, with Wendy Drennen on the bass guitar and Glenn Drennen on guitar. Justin Cox is the guitarist and also helps with background vocals, and Phee Shorb on the drumset. The album For Those Who Wait released February 9th, along with the video for “Desperate”. The band is definitely on a role musically.

The album starts off with a song that shares the same title as the album. “For Those Who Wait” was an awesome choice to start off the album. It makes a phenomenal first impression. The powerhouse female vocals are so strong, and meaningful. The song has the ability to give goose bumps. I love the heavy rock sound that continues in “Fire In My Eyes”. Again, I am completely blown away by the intensity of the deep, strong vocals, that make the ground shake. The alternative rock sound is very similar to that of the band Paramore, which is also fronted by female vocalist, Hayley Williams. The two both have similar vocal qualities. That’s definitely not a bad thing in this case.

Core Of My Addiction” starts off soft, and picks up quickly. The lyrics make it seem to be about being crazy in love with someone to the point that it’s like an addiction. I love all the effects in this song and the chord progression is sick. I hope this band is just as good live as they are on the album, because every single bit and piece of this song is perfection. Every song is a success so far, and I am yet to be disappointed continuing on to the song “Name” which is a bit of a softer song than the others. The song tells a story, about the birth of a child. This is a very religious song, being a Christian Rock band, but it is so unbelievably beautiful. The band takes a wonderful experience for a father, and puts it to music, explaining it beautifully. It’s a sad story, but it’s very motivational, and it’s definitely the best song on the album for me.

Recovery Begins” is the last song on the album. The piano is gorgeous and fits in the song beautifully. Whoever takes on the songwriting role in the group is amazing at what they do. The vocals change in this song from powerful, strong, to light and beautiful. Her voice can adjust to any type of sound and still sound amazing. The way the drums and guitar and everything in this one fit together so perfectly is mind blowing. This is one of the best albums I have heard in a while. I cannot find one negative thing to say about this band, or album at all. The songs are more than just ear catching, they go somewhere, and have a meaningful message, and intrigue the listener. It’s an awesome record for anybody who likes good music.
