The Give It A Name Introduces tour has been in the UK for over a week. With the bands on the tour playing various venues across the UK,the tour does what it says in the title. Introducing the UK onto bands in which are to be seen as future big successes.
The bands include Anarbor, Rio, The Wild, The Dangerous Summer and The Swellers. For the three main american bands on the lineup it is there first time in not only the UK but in Europe as well.
First up are Anarbor with their indie punk tinged rock anthems which start the night off well. The lead singer talks to the crowd with confidence stating “How are we doing Manchester baby”. Songs from the bands latest album ‘The Words You Don’t Swallow’ the songs really get the crowd jumping and singing along and finish the set with the song favorite ‘Gypsy Woman’
Up next were the London based band ‘Rio’ with their synth/pop songs. The band get a mixed reception and make their way through some really catchy songs.
‘The Wild’ another London based band who can only be described as classic metal with a female vocalist are up next. The vocalist really gets the crowd going as well saying “All you ladys come forward and have a good time yeah”. Playing songs that are truly anthemic this band could easily share the stage with other legendary bands like Motorhead, AC/DC. The band goes off with a great response.
Fourth band in and it’s the turn of ‘The Dangerous Summer’ who pull the most people in to listen to them. Their songs go down well with subject matter about life and love the band get the crowd singing along with ease.
Last band of the night and it’s the long awaited ‘The Swellers’ whose fast punk rock songs like ‘2009′, ‘Fire Away’ and ‘Sleeper’ really showcase the bands talent. Stopping before a song to let the drummer (Jono) start the song he plays the exact song start as his guitarist brother (Nick) as Nick comments ‘that’s a brotherly connection there’. With crowd requests for older songs off their ‘My Everest’ album the band blast through song after song. A mini moshpit is started in return for the song ‘The Flood’ with this the night ends on a perfect high.
The one problem with the night was people only turn up to watch the band they want to see. All the bands who played were great. Let’s hope next year that the full Give It A Name festival makes a return to the UK and we get to hear some more new upcoming bands.
