A Hero’s Fate Another Knight Alone EP Review

A Hero’s fate is a five piece pop-pink/metal band from Orlando, Florida. Their debut album Another Knight Alone, released on Bonded Records, is a infectious record that blends the lines of musical genres.

The album starts out with “Ron is Anthrax Proof”. This track is a great example of a crossover song. Pop fans will find the vocals and the lyrics familiar where hard rock and metal fans will enjoy the beat of the song and heavy drums.

The band seems to slow the record down a bit with “Chrono-Logic”. The song starts out pretty slow with for the most part only the lead singer’s voice. The song picks up more towards the middle, but slows down again at the end.

“Leroy, King of the Dolphins” is probably the most poppy song on the record.  It’s a pretty happy song with a really good beat. It has a way of sounding like a radio song without sounding over produced.

“Return of the Seawolf” lacked the togetherness of the rest of the album for me. The most it had going for it was a catchy chorus. At times the instrumentals were too choppy and didn’t sound right mixed with the vocals.

The band shows their sensitive side with “Bye Bye Blackbird”. The track has no drums, screams, or heavy guitar riffs on it. It doesn’t have a strong pick up in tempo anywhere, and you don’t’ have to dig into the lyrics to find any hidden meanings. The song has one simple meaning, love. The band executed it perfectly.

“Tales of the Mountain Lion” is one of the more hardcore songs on the album.  The band attempts to steer the song into the screamo genre by screaming off  a few lines in the middle of the song and a verse at the end. The first set of screams is a little rough, and the spot where they placed them didn’t really make much sense to me. The screams at the end were introduced by a drum intro, making the entrance much smoother. They also seemed to be a lot stronger and seemed to fit much better. It seemed to be a good way to end the record strong.

Another Knight Alone takes you on a musical roller coaster. Some of the songs are pop, some are rock, some are hardcore, some are fast, some are slow, some are noteworthy and some you could live without. Overall, it showcases the bands potential quite well. I’m excited to see what the future has to hold for A Hero’s Fate.
