So a little over a week ago, I received a email whilst on Skype with Shred’s Editor – Kayley. It was from this fairly unknown band, I Only Date Models. Never discarding an email from a band I found myself browsing through their myspace, and to be quite honest I wasn’t overly impressed to begin with. A basic layout, nice but nothing eye catching or exciting and I thought I was going to be disappointed with their sound too as I was expecting nothing more than the same old same old. But then I hit that little play button at the right hand corner of the screen and my original assumption was forgotten almost instantly. Basically what I’m saying is, you know the phrase “Don’t judge a book by it’s cover”? Well, it couldn’t be more true in this situation.

This small town band are based in Nottingham and only formed at the beginning of 2009. I Only Date Models is made up of four talented boys, Sammy Ault (vocals/guitar) , Michael Meadows (lead guitar) , Tim Bollans (bass) and Tom Ford (drums) who all met in university. Although only being together for around a year the boy’s have had some fairly big opportunities come their way already. Playing along side some UK favourites such as Example, Twenty Twenty and even Iglu & Hartly – who’s track “In This City” reached #5 in the UK Charts.

Despite not having a EP released just yet, their first single “ One Day ( I Will Light Up Your Sky)” is available on Itunes and talks are in the works about recording their second single within the next few months. With their sound reminding me of something similar to Bloc Party even I myself am excited to hear new music from these guys!

Regarding the rest of 2010 they boys are looking at a great year. They hope to work with Jack Wills (who showcase the freshest music) again on their freshers tour and also have an acoustic performance set up for March. Although the rest of their plans are not set in stone they hope to tour the UK and hopefully snatch up a couple of shows in Europe. For now though, they aim to continue touring in their home town and carry on expanding their current fanbase.
