Ingrid Michaelson Everybody CD Review

a review of everybody the new ingrid michaelson album Ingrid Michaelson Everybody CD ReviewBy: Ashley Pagano

I was first introduced to the astonishing musicianship of Ingrid Michaelson, when I heard her mesmeric and fascinating song, “Corner Of Your Heart” on ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy. The song added so much emotion to the scene in the episode and I just had to look up the artist when I heard it. It seemed like after that, I saw Ingrid’s music everywhere. The video for “The Way I Am” was on TV, and everyone was talking about how magnificent her tunes really were. I called myself a definite fan from that point on.

Ingrid Michaelson recently released her new and brilliant album titled Everybody which has been the only thing I have been listening to since I heard the first track. My favorite part of this album is the lyrics to the songs. This album is so expressive, and very impressive. A lot of bands and artists, when putting out new material, don’t live up to the previous albums they’ve released. I honestly like Everybody much better than Ingrid’s other music, which was already phenomenal.

“The Chain” really astonished me and was a quick favorite of mine. I had heard a live version of the song a while back, but now that it’s on the album, I hear it so much clearer, and it’s a beautiful song. The chord progression at the beginning on the piano, followed by soft humming had already had me hooked. The lyrics and harmonies kept me listening and by the end of the song I was addicted.

Acoustic songs are either extremely meaningful and deep, or boring to me. The song “Soldier” starts out soft and the acoustic is nice. This song seems different from the original style of Ingrid’s music, but not in a bad way at all. It’s a faster song, but still very relaxing and impressive.

The song “Locked Up” reminds me of The Hush Sound, and their music. It’s really interesting and definitely made me curious as to who her influences are. “Men Of Snow” really caught my attention because of the interesting lyrics. It’s different, there’s no doubt about that, but a good kind of different that I think Ingrid’s fans will love just as much as I do.

The song “Everybody” which shares the same title as the album, was a very optimistic and uplifting song. It’s the kind of song that can put anyone in a great mood. It reminds me a lot of Jack Johnson, and his style of music mixed with Dave Matthews Band. This song also makes a lot of sense, and I recommend listening to this track.

“Maybe” is the song that wraps the album up at the end. It’s a little slower, and it didn’t really stand out to me, but it must’ve been meaningful to her and it was probably written about something special. The song reminded me of a song that would be playing during the happy ending of a movie, fading out at the end. This album is gripping and without a doubt one of my favorite albums. It’s obvious that Ingrid Michaelson has unquestionably grown as a musician.
