Kids In Glass Houses Dirt CD Review

By: Aaron Wilson

Second full length album in from the guys from Wales and what an album it is, jam packed full of catchy lyrics, fast paced guitars and catchy guitar hooks. When all of this is mixed together it makes a great sunny side up record that everyone will enjoy.

‘The Artbreaker I’ crawls in with a catchy guitar riff and pounding drums to really showcase what this album is about and let people know what to expect from this record.

The album then churns out songs which are just so catchy and perfect that the lyrics will have anyone singing them in their head after listening to them. Songs like ‘The Best Is Yet To Come’, ‘Sunshine’, ‘Matters At All’ ,’Young Blood (Let It Out)’ and ‘Lilli Rose’. These songs just explode in your ears with as catchy as you can get guitar riffs and add pure passion from singer front man Aled as well.

The album has it’s slow sound with the song ‘Giving Up’ with the emotive lyrics “We’re giving up, we’re giving up, But I won’t breathe another word about you, We’re giving up, we’re giving up, woah, And I won’t sleep without you”.

Trumpets and horns start off the song ‘For Better Or Hearse’ and bring the album back into the fast paced catchy gear and drives through another great song which can easily stick in your head for days.

Not a lot of bands use pop singers on albums but on the song ‘Undercover Lover’ the Saturdays member Frankie Sandford sings along side Aled. It brings a good mix of vocals and coupled with the bands sound it works very well and is quite surprising to hear.

Last few songs of the album and ‘Maybe Tomorrow’ drives home more rock infused cactchyness to show that the akbum is just as good as their previous offering.

Next up another slow song in the form of ‘The Morning Afterlife’ really show a soft emotional side to the band and show they can do slow songs as well as catchy fast paced songs.

The final two songs “Hunt The Haunted’ and ‘Artbreaker II’ finish of the album well with even a classic metal sounding guitar riff to punch home the band can play any style of music and make it sound damn good.

With this album the band have truly stepped up their game from their first full length “Smart Casual”. Their sound isn’t copying anyone else either and they have really found what is to be called the “Kids In Glass Houses sound” which works perfectly for the band and they don’t half do it well.
