Know Them Before They’re Famous: Letterday

By: Darlene Dobkowski

Boston and Massachusetts in general have always been the birthplace of many great bands.  Who knows what the factor is for that.  Maybe it’s just sheer coincidence.  Letterday, a band from Boston, is one of the many bands that have had the opportunity to keep Massachusetts’ music reputation.

The five-piece, pop-punk band has been together in one form or another since 2001.  True, pop-punk is such a cliché moniker for a band, but they bring originality and an uncontrollable toe-tapping urge to their music.  Not only that, but they also add a certain grittiness that is often absent in today’s pop-punk arena.

Letterday, which features Antonio Cinelli (vocals and guitar), Adam Stasio (guitar and vocals), Chad Boudreau (guitar and vocals), Pat Politano (drums) and Tom Ellis (bass), is a band that knows how to make a presence for themselves, especially online.  They have many sites for fans and curious music listeners to check out their music including Twitter, MySpace and Facebook.

The band has released The Company We Keep EP this past spring online for everyone to download.   Although it only features four songs, it leaves you wanting more from Letterday.  They also feature a new song on their MySpace.

This summer, Letterday was featured in Under The Gun Review’s first post in their video series called “UTG: RAW,” which features an acoustic song by the band.  With this video, you’re able to see part of the band’s dynamic and how well they work and sound together.  It’s neat to see that a band truly combines together well because it shows in their music.

Letterday plays bands all over Boston and the New England area.  They are one of the few bands playing at No Fights Fest 2, which will take place at the QVCC in Worcester, MA on Dec. 27.

Even though the band is unsigned, I don’t have any doubts that they will be picked up by a label.  They have a sound that is impossible to hate, an appeal that fans can’t deny and a passion for music, which is sometimes unfortunately nonexistent in bands.  Their semi-underground status makes them a hidden gem in Boston’s music scene.
