Know Before They’re Famous: Like Lions

By: Steph Mirsky

Second chances are delicate; sometimes they can bring innovative greatness, but other times they only reaffirm what already came to pass.  However, for small-town Pennsylvania band Like Lions, the later is surely not the case.  Stimulated by resurgence in artistic creativity, Greg Itzen (vocals, guitar), Adam Honeycutt (guitar, backup vocals), and Mike Honeycutt (drums) began to jam again, but this time in a different direction.  They adapted a holistic indie, soft rock sound and picked up Jason Harris (bass), and Diana D’Argenio (piano) to perfect their new approach to the old band Like Lions.

All the band members hail from Bucks County, Pennsylvania; a picturesque exurb from Philadelphia that is able to boast previous acts such as Anthony Green, The Starting Line, Saves the Day, The High Court and Valencia.  With their perfect blend of indie rock and catchy lyrics, the new Like Lions will surely join the ranks of recognition among these impressive predecessors.  Starting last January the band began to practice and collaborate; what emerged was a refocused Like Lions, whom have a truly incomparable identity and a well-defined plan of action.  They teamed up with PlayWork Productions, a small, indie music production and recording company who has worked with a variety of musicians including Four Year Strong and The Almost.  The bands close ties to their production team allowed them the artistic freedom necessary to begin working on a career-defining album.

Like Lions sounds similar to no other band in the indie scene right now.  Their ability to blend soft vocals with a variety of melodies, ranging from slow and soothing to more acoustic and upbeat, demonstrates LL versatility within their own genre.  Passion and determination are driving this quintet to push themselves to the best of their ability.  During the past month, Like Lions played a variety of shows: various small venues in their hometown and The World Café in downtown Philadelphia.  They have shared the stage with Person L, the new project of Kenny Vasoli from The Starting Line, and Cheap Seats.  For Like Lions, it would seem that this second chance has proven to be one filled with promise and success.  And just like lions, this band is making some serious noise in their respective scene.
