Know Them Before They’re Famous: Machree

By: Steph Mirsky

Inspiration can come from the strangest of places, it can lead us out of darkness or it can allow us to begin again; but most importantly, inspiration inevitably brings about change.  This is exactly what the members of Machree experienced as Patrick (vocals), Jonathan (guitar), Marcus (guitar), Mike (keys, samples), Brian (bass), and Dan (drums) came together.  These St. Louis, MO natives have pulled influence and experience from previous music endeavors that represent completely opposite ends of the alternative musical spectrum.  What they have produced is an electric and forceful fusion of progressive post-hardcore with a definitive ambiance.

Over the past two years the sextet, that is Machree, have been maturing both musically and emotionally.  This evolution is apparent in their newly released album White Out, which has a variety of songs that partners tempo-shifting metal with melodramatic soft-rock to create a truly unique sound.  The ability to combine what would normally be genre-defining elements has allowed Machree to stand out even with the hardcore genre on the backburner in today’s music scene.  It is clear by their local success that this is a band on the rise; their large local fan base that has helped to propel them onto successful tours alongside Dear Hunter and This is Hell.

Currently Machree is only playing local shows, opening for Firebird and The Dear Hunter, but that is not a deterrent for this band.  In fact, the band was just featured in Alternative Press Magazine as an unsigned band of the month, showing that they hold much promise for the future.  So give White Out a listen and embrace the experimental sounds of Machree before they get famous.
