Know Them Before They’re Famous: The Ready Set

By: Steph Mirsky

As the alternative-pop scene is taking off, it has become increasingly popular to see bands who were originally alternative-rock splicing their songs with synthesized beats.  But in scene where musical genres are quickly blending and bands are quickly adapting to stay on the cutting edge, it is hard to stand out.  This is not the case for The Ready Set, a one-man alternative pop band, which is the creation of Fort Wayne, Indiana’s Jordan Witzigreuter.  Pulling inspiration from influences that occur in life and love, Witzigreuter has created a truly unique sound that will quickly push him to the front of the alternative-pop scene.  Using the alias The Ready Set, young Witzigreuter writes and records all his own music.

Similarly to one-man bands such as The Rocket Summer and NeverShoutNever, The Ready Set’s Jordan Witzigreuter is a renaissance musician; acting as drummer, singer and keyboardist, this nineteen-year-old clearly ready to make his mark in the music world.  Although Witzigreuter has been in multiple bands since the age of fourteen, he formed The Ready Set at 16 when he decided that having his own musical sound and creative rights was crucial.  After only three years his sound has become focused and perfected, and The Ready Set is geared up to take it’s shot in this vibrant industry.

While Witzigreuter makes all recordings, friends join him on tour to help create a unique and memorable live show. Andy Snyder (Bass) and Travis Rountree (Drums) play live and create an explosive live show complete with spectacular lighting effects, contagious melodies and mind-blowing beats.

The Ready Set is currently on tour, until the end of September, opening for power-pop bands Mercy Mercedes and Stereo Skyline.  TRS then immediately joins fellow electronica band brokeNCYDE for the national Crunk Kids Tour. This quick switch in tour genre shows the true diversity of sound that Witzigreuter and Co has accomplished.

It comes as no surprise that Witzigreuter has seen such a positive reaction to The Ready Set project.  His presence on MySpace Music is exceedingly impressive: he can boast over 5,600,000 song plays and a fan base of over 83,000.  It is Witzigreuter’s presence ad ability to blend genres to create a truly unique sound in an increasingly generic industry. So go check out The Ready Set and get ready to dance the night away to the an electronic-alternative-pop infused set that will surely have you getting ready for more.
