Band To Watch: MeVsHero

By: Poppy Cleere

WHO ARE THEY?

Formed in 2007, pop-punk act Me Vs Hero has continually impressed music critics and gig-goers alike with their infectious energy and catchy, pop-infused tracks. The band – made up of northern lads Sam Thompson (Vocals), Mike Booth (Bass), Ross Malpass (Guitar), Oli Bradley (Drums), and Daniel Pook (Guitar) – have been ones to watch since the beginning with their self-titled debut EP, Me Vs Hero gaining mass acclaim online. With almost a million plays and just under 50,000 fans on Myspace, endless tours with the likes of Elliot Minor and Story of the year, endorsements from some of the UK music-scene’s top clothing and instrument companies, and comparisons to such US heavyweights as Set Your Goals and NFG it’d be an understatement to say that Me Vs Hero have achieved some impressive feats in their 2 years together so far, and with no sign of stopping, I think it’s safe to say the future looks bright, very bright for Me Vs Hero.

WHY YOU NEED TO KNOW THEM

It’s simple: Me Vs Hero is one of the most enjoyable UK pop-punk bands to watch, their incessant energy from start to finish, constant crowd interaction and ecstatic stage presence is reminiscent of US legends New Found Glory and Four Year Strong but with a cheeky British twist.  As they comfortably hop about the stage, smiling ear to ear it’s easy to see that they’re born performers and the best thing is: they clearly enjoy it. It’s no wonder that they’ve bagged shows and tours with the likes of You Me At Six, The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Cute is What We Aim For and this January, Breathe Carolina.

Their music is just as potent as their live shows; heavy on the gang vocals, insatiably catchy choruses and strong melodies. Light on the negativity. These guys want you to enjoy life, to have a good time and for this they provide the perfect soundtrack. I’d keep an eye on this young band, It’s not everyday that the UK finds a pop-punk band that can contend with the big guys over in the US, and Me Vs Hero seem very capable of holding their ground. Knockout!
