UK #13 Mike Dignam

By: Bekka Collins

Being a teenager, you’d normally expect to be in some form of education with the hope of becoming successful in future years. However, at the age of 19 Mike Dignam, originally from Preston but now living in London, is playing the cards a little bit differently. Although he is in education and is studying at ICMP music school in London he is still managing to be successful too. He is slowly working his way up the music industry from the clubs and the pubs to the headline shows. Taking his current circumstances into account it’s safe to say he won’t be throwing in the towel anytime soon.
At the age of 17, Mike began using MySpace to help promote his music in which he has found incredibly helpful over the past two years. Currently his catchy mix between acoustic and pop tunes have accumulated over 344,000 plays alongside his friend count which has passed the 27,000 mark. His songs such as “Slow it Down” and “Anything” seem to be his most popular tracks so far .A personal favorite of mine is “Don’t You Dare” because of its upbeat tempo alongside an appealing guitar riff. Which just so happens to be accompanied by some fantastic vocals. With Mike’s voice similar to those of Jason Mraz and Michael Buble it’s clear to see why people enjoy his music so much. He has had the privilege of sharing his music with the world not only on MySpace but through some pretty big shows. He has shared the stage with the likes of JLS and Jamie Archer (both previous X Factor contestants) as well as big name acts such as Alphabeat, Elliot Minor, Tinchy Stryder and Just Jack.

With his schedule for the New Year currently empty gig wise, it gives Mike the chance to continue writing his new album whilst beginning to talk to both management and labels to help ensure his record will have a big push into the charts. However a good friend of Mike’s, Gabrielle Aplin are planning to record and release a split EP together in February, although no date has been confirmed yet. For now though Mike is spending the rest of 2009 having a good time playing a few one off shows and hopes to make a scene in 2010.
