MuteMath Armistice CD Review
By: Nicole Bradley
MuteMath is a four piece rock band from New Orleans. Using rock to describe their genre isn’t 100% correct. The band’s sound takes influences from many different genres like new wave to electro rock to ambient vocals. The band saw great success with their song “Spotlight” was put onto the Twilight soundtrack. They band gained many new fans, but personally I know them because of their insane, but genius music video, for the song. Just about a week ago, Mute Math released their second full length Armistice on Teleprompt/Warner Bros Records.
The title song Armistice has a very jazzy blues feel to it. It’s a good song to jam to with catch lyrics that make you swing your body. The song Pins And Needles has an elevator song opening but Its soothing. The lyrics can work very well for a more solemn mood.
My favorite song off the album, “The Nerve”, has remarkable riffs and astounding lyrics that literally embellish every note. If you’ve ever drove in your car, blasting music, wind blowing in your hair – you would want this song to be playing through your speakers. The best part about it, you wouldn’t be ashamed of singing along to the song – yes, it’s that good.
“Spotlight”, the song that was featured in the movie Twilight, also has a great energy to it that most listeners crave. Unlike most bands, Mute Math takes pride in trying new things with their music videos. In their first music video for Typical, they recorded everything backwards. This music video, they sped everything up, and shot themselves playing in a van speeding down the street. Its genius and simple.
In conclusion, Armistice rates a 10/10 for basically everything across the charts. The album stays completely true to Mute Math’s general sound, which their fans know and love. The songs are catch and the lyrics are heartfelt. The guitar riffs and instrument usage is incredible and perfectly executed. Definitely check out this band, you won’t be disappointed.
