OK Go Of The Blue Colour Of The Sky CD Review

By: Ashley Pagano

Starting in Chicago, Illinois, and now residing in Los Angeles, California, OK Go is a rock band known for their high energy music videos, and for their hits “A Million Ways”, and “Here It Goes Again”. With influences such as Queen, Pixies, and The Zombies, the group has put out three successful albums, the third being their newest, titled Of The Blue Colour Of The Sky.

“WTF?” is the first song you get to hear when popping the album into your CD player, and let me tell you, it makes quite an impression. The vocals are soothing, when lead singer, Damian Kulash, shows off his chilling falsetto voice. Not only that, but the song also has an awesome guitar solo that it has going for it. I could tell I was going to love this album right away. “All Is Not Lost” is the third track on the album. This song has not only a nice sound, but a great message. It’s very motivational, and it makes you just want to fight through all your problems. It’s very uplifting, even though it’s not an upbeat song.

My favorite song on the album is “Skyscrapers”. Again, I am completely taken back by the awesome vocal quality, and the soothing, soft sound that doesn’t seem to get repetitive or boring. The chord progression on the guitar is awesome, and the song makes you just want to sway back and forth. The beat is awesome, as it is in “I Want You So Bad I Can’t Breathe”. The harmonies go together so nicely, and it gave me goose bumps. Every portion of the song is absolute perfection.

Next is “End Love”. The sound to this song is different, but a nice change up. The beat picks up in this song. I couldn’t really find too much of a meaning for the song, but I still like it just as much. “While You Were Asleep” sounds like it should be in a Mario video game at the beginning. It really shows off how unique the band is.

OK Go has really proven themselves to be breaking the mold in the music industry with this album. They tried a new sound, and went with the idea, and it worked out really well in the end. I would recommend this album to anybody. The album has a mix of happy, upbeat songs, to peaceful and relaxing songs, to beautiful ballads. It’s a perfect variety. Get a copy and listen for yourselves.
