Immersion is the next album and installment of the Australian dance outfit that is the mighty Pendulum.
With the bands last album ‘In Silico’ being such a big hit with the summer anthem “Propane Nightmares” the band are back again with another injection of dance filled tunes.
The album this time round is in the same light as In Silico but throw in a few featured artists like Liam Howlett (Prodigy member) and the band In Flames and it’s set to be a big hitter.
‘Genesis’ starts off with a typical synth marching tune to get your anticipation built up for the album. ‘Salt in the wounds’ then kicks in with a thick layer of synth dance beats that really set the album off and get everyone hooked and drawn in for a huge musical ride. ’Watercolour’ the bands recently released single comes in “when I’ve fallen down will you pick me up again, when I’m too far gone, dead in the eyes of my friends” soft sweet vocals lead you straight into a dance ridden beat frenzy that is sure to be as big a hit a song as what ‘Propane Nightmares’ was for the bands previous album.
Other songs on the album which are thick with dance beats and lyrics which keep the pace of the album going are “Crush”, “Under The Waves”, “Comprachicos” and “The Vulture”. These songs are integral to keep the album listener hooked but are not as catchy as the rest of the album. ’Immunize’ featuring Prodigy member Liam Howlett is an album stealer of a song with the ferocity and huge beats and bass sound of the Prodigy coupled with Pendulum. It makes one hell of a song catchy synth sounds with a big bass line it definitely is a song not to be missed.
A metal song mixed with Pendulum beats in the form of the song ‘Self vs Self’ is something you would not like to hear but for some reason it works well. With the harmonic guitar work from the band In Flames mixed with the heavy beats and sweet vocals of Pendulum it really shows collaborations can work really well. For the more dance fans of the band then the songs ‘Set Me On Fire’, ‘The Island Pt. I + Pt. 2′ are perfect just pure eclectic spazzmodic beats with all the beats and synth sounds you can think of. And they all work well with the album as a break away from the constant lyric driven songs that some Pendulum fans don’t seem to like. Another song off the album sure to be played many a time over the summer is ‘Witchcraft’ with a catchy synth sound hooked with sweet lyrics and the constant fast paced dance beat. The song sits perfectly with ‘Watercolour’ to be the two songs set to be played over and over on this album.
The album finishes off with the songs ‘The Fountain Ft. Steve Wilson’ and ‘Encoder’ both songs bring the album to an epic finish and the end of a musical journey that is hard to describe.
‘Immersion’ is a great album that will sit along side any other of the bands back catalog. The album only really has a few songs here and there that really do stand out and stick in your mind and leave you wanting more.
The band themselves are a band which can easily cause havoc in venues and festivals around and this summer and with these songs with them I’m sure they’ll be a huge success.
