Saosin In Search Of Soild Ground CD Review

By: Nicole Bradley

From Newport Beach, California comes a very familiar band within the alternative world, Saosin. The band formed back in 2003 by guitarist Beau Burchell. After lead singer Anthony Green left the band, Cove Reber joined and started a similar but familiarity within Saosin’s new sound.  Accompanied by guitarists Beau Burchell and Justin Shekoski, bassist Chris Sorenson, and drummer Alex Rodriguez, Saosin has become, what I believe to be, one of the bigger successes in the music industry.

In Search of Solid Ground, released on September 8th on Virgin Records will be Saosin’s second full length album. It feature’s their two newest singles “On My Own” and “Is This Real”.

The biggest aspect of Saosin’s newest album was the controversy that came prior to the release. After fans were terribly disappointed in the new album artwork for In Search of Solid Ground two days before the actual press of the album, the band quickly arranged to change it to a simpler piece of art.

My favorite song, “Changing” has a different sound to it than Saosin’s first album. Cove’s voice literally flows as easy’ as water, and could make any listener pleased. “On My Own” presents a video that coexists incredibly with each other. It’s an instant crowd pleaser and shows the consistency of Saosin’s first album.

The one song I believe has enveloped me completely is called “The Worst of Me.” The song is really catchy, and the backup singing has complete and utter emotion that scream lyrics that make you feel something. “It’s All Over Now” really hit home, and made me realize (as a new college student) how much I missed home. It’s beautifully written, and could make any homesick kid need a hug from their mom.

“Fireflies” is another song off the album that I’m obsessed with. It’s honest and truly lovely. “Deep Down” is such a fun song to listen to. It’s upbeat and seriously has a good jive to it.

Overall, I loved the album. It was so much more polished then their first album with improvements that could only benefit their success.

For Fans Of: Underoath, Pierce The Veil, Taking Back Sunday

Overall Rating (Out of 10): 9.5

Tracks To Listen To: Changing, Fireflies and On My Own
