Jay Rowland: Tell us about how the band got started?
Colin Guffey: The band got started in May of 08 with Trey and Noah just working out songs and finding what they wanted to TN sound to be. They asked Mike to try out for singing just because they were buds with him and wanted to see how it would go. It obviously worked out lol. The way Jack came into the picture is from a dude named Corey Boland (guitar player before me, Colin.) Corey just noticed they needed a guitar player from myspace and wanted to try out and he said he knew a bass player as well so it worked out. Long story short Corey didn’t work out and Jack knew me (Colin) from our previous metal band we had. I (Colin) came and tried out and we all just clicked well.
Jay Rowland: What’s the story behind the band’s name?
Colin Guffey: I think Noah saw it somewhere and thought it sounded good but the main story we go with is that it’s a song title from a hip hop artist from Detroit named J Dilla. He passed away a few years back. :/
Jay Rowland: What are some influences for the band?
Colin Guffey: Just a huge mix of old pop punk and hardcore that we grew up listening to like NFG, The Starting line, Boys Night Out, Comeback Kid, and some Set Your Goals too. I think our biggest influence though is life.
Jay Rowland: Who writes the lyrics and the music?
Colin Guffey: Trey puts alot of work on crafting the music the right way. Him and I come up with subject to write about and sometimes I write some rough lyrics down and he puts them into different words so they sound a flow better. When it comes to the music Trey, Noah and I write most of it together.
Jay Rowland: Mike is leaving the band. Is it alright if I ask about that? What’s the story?
Colin Guffey: What Mike told us when he said he wanted to quit was that this isn’t the music he wants to be known for. Mike wasn’t really a “pop punk kid” to begin with. He is gonna keep trucking with music and we wish him the best of luck.
Jay Rowland: If you don’t get a new lead singer do you guys plan on still doing shows? Or will there be a break till the lead spot is filled?
Colin Guffey: Well we will be getting a new lead singer here pretty soon. This band isn’t going anywhere but to the top of the game. We have 40+ people that have contacted us about trying out and that is just a rough estimate. We will be in the scene better then ever in no time. Mark my words.
Jay Rowland: Let’s talk about the new EP then. The Get-Go, What was the inspiration behind it?
Colin Guffey: The Get-Go ep’s inspiration is just us getting started and letting people know that we aren’t messing around by any means.
Jay Rowland: What’s your favorite song off the new EP?
Colin Guffey: My personal favorite it “Northward Winds were bound to happen” it hits really hard and kids go ape shit live for it.
Jay Rowland: The New EP is going to vinyl in December. What made you guys decide to release it on vinyl?
Colin Guffey: We didn’t have much of a say if it was out on vinyl or not. We actually didn’t plan on putting it out at all because the songs are the first few we recorded. But our label came to us and asked us how we felt about putting it out on vinyl and we thought “what the hell, can’t hurt anything.” Lol
Jay Rowland: So, you guys are signed up with I Surrender Records. What’s it like?
Colin Guffey: So far I Surrender Records is great. Rob Hitt treats us as good as he can and he does his best to help us anytime we need it. I couldn’t be happier with our choice for our first label.
Jay Rowland: Any plans for a tour once you guys have a new lead singer?
Colin Guffey: Hell yeah. We are gonna tour the shit out of this country and after we made our mark here we are gonna go tour the shit out of other countries. We don’t have anything lined up for sure yet but that’s just what’s gonna happen.
Jay Rowland: What bands would you most like to tour with?
Colin Guffey: I really want to tour with saves the day once in my life because they did a lot for me growing up but honestly I want to tour and meet everyone I can.
Jay Rowland: Anything else you’d like to say to your fans?
Colin Guffey: I just want everyone to start spreading the hype about us and this new album. We are in this to win this. And if you ever recognize any of us out in public just come up and say hi. We love meeting people and getting to know the people that dig our music. Stay true and love life.
