The Audition Great Danger CD Review

When people talk about The Audition they would probably only be able to tell you of at least two of the band’s songs from their back catalogue of albums that they like. This is a great shame as The Audition have released some great songs from either their debut album “Controversy Loves Company”, 2008’s “Champion” or 2009’s “Self Titled Album” .

Great Danger is the bands next installment of punk hook laden songs and they do the job very well as far as catchiness goes. The album starts off well with “Let Me Know” which is a more punk song with catchy lyrics “If we’re gonna make it please you gotta let me know” which runs throughout the song to make it truly stick in your brain and make you sing the lyrics to yourself later. With “The Art of Living” the songs album pace is upped with more fast guitar and drum rhythms. The band is also not afraid to try new things out as this song has a slight orchestral sound to it as well.

With the song “You Ruined This”, its where the album proves its worth as it is a great song with great emotive lyrics from Danny Stephens (Vocals). The pace of the album is kept up with the songs “He Is What You Want” and “Do You Remember” which keep the punk flowing hooked with emotive lyrics. An interlude comes in halfway through the album which is a welcomed change to any punk album that you listen to nowadays.

Slow song “Runaway” is another song you thought that The Audition could possibly  not pull off but they do it well. Danny’s lyrics fit and work well giving across the message of love “You runaway from everything, it’s all you’ve ever known about yourself”.

The album then picks up the pace again with “Never Heard Again” and “Final Adventure” to bring you to the end of a punk rock album that has plenty of hooks.

Finishing on “Stand Up and Fight” is a perfect way to finish the album off with the positive message of standing up for yourself or someone else. The lyrics “stand up and fight, stand up and fight for what’s right, no matter if it’s for ourselves or someone else” run throughout the song to really make the song memorable.

Great Danger is another great offering from The Audition! It has everything from catchy guitar riffs to  emotion filled lrics from front man Danny Stephens. The only downside to the album is the song “Ms. Crumby” in which Danny tries to sing in a higher tone of voice and his voice just doesn’t sound strong enough to pull this off well. Apart from the one song the album is a great addition to sit alongside the back catalogue of albums they already have. Let’s hope that this album really pushes them out into the ears of potential new fans and gives them the well deserved recognition that they deserve.
