The Blue Pages Night Hawke CD Review

By: Jess Grenier

The Blue Pages an upcoming band from Boston has finally released their second EP Night Hawke. After releasing their first EP back in 2009, the band finally released Night Hawke back on April 13th. Their fans have long waited for this EP, I being one of them. The band took a different direction with Night Hawke from their first EP Bear Fight. In the new direction that the band took, I feel that they’re finally on the road to becoming a pretty well-known band.

The first song off of Night Hawke is “Lil Mama” which is an up-beat song that showcases their talent as a band. I dare you not to dance or nod your head to this song. It’s basically impossible. “Lil Mama” as of right now is the #3 top downloaded songs on Purevolume.com. The next song titled “Slow Down” is much slower than “Lil Mama” but it’s still one of those songs where you can still get your groove on.

One of my favorite off the EP is “Breaking Me” just because this song is different from the other songs that The Blue Pages have created. In this song, the vocals complete it. What I mean from that is you can hear singer Zac Barnett’s vocal range in a completely melodic song. The next song “True Blood” picks the pace back up. This song is almost “Lil Mama” with how catchy and dancey the song is. It’s a song that easily gets stuck in your head but not in an annoying way.

The following song after “True Blood” is “That 850.” This song is another one of my favorites. This song definitely demonstrates Zac’s incredible voice. The lyrics are also pretty catchy along with the music making everything fit together perfectly. The final song off of Night Hawke is “Say It Again.” This song and like many of the other songs is easy to get down too. In the song it mentions “We’ll be moving all night long” and that’s exactly what you’ll be doing while listening to this song/EP.

The Blue Pages will be heading out on tour with Cash Cash pretty soon. It’d be a great opportunity to go see them play these songs plus some of their old songs as well. You would also be able to pick up your own copy of Night Hawke. If you want to hear Night Hawke now then head to http://www.purevolume.com/thebluepagesmusic, you can even download “Lil Mama” too.
