UK Artist #8: James Mcvey

James Mcvey is an acoustic solo artist whose music career is slowly beginning to take off. James is from Chester, Cheshire now resides in Dorset on the British South Coast. He plans to progress his musical abilities by continuing to study music at sixth form. He has been playing guitar since the age of 12 and singing since he was 14. Now at the age of 16 James believes it’s time to start sharing his music with those around him.

James made his Myspace in 2008 and began uploading covers such as Damien Rice- “Cannonball” and Kate Nash -”Mouthwash” but also songs of his own like “North Star” and “Move My Way”. As the months progressed he began uploading more of his own songs which were a great hit as he now has gained over 28,000 plays. His most popular song “Brightest Of Colours” is his first single. It can be bought from Amazon, Napster, Rhapsody, PureVolume and the iTunes Store.

James has recently begun gaining more promotion due to the signing of an exclusive contract with promotion agency Absolutely. A concert with none other than UK X Factor finalist Diana Vickers has also helped James get his feet off the ground. Since then he has played one other show with Diana Vickers and is scheduled to play his third show with her in September, alongside Goldie Lookin Chain at The Bic for the Summer Ball 2009. James’ summer plans consist of touring right up until mid October and he has had the pleasure of sharing the stage with the likes of Fearne, Garwe and Jon Bilbrough.

James’ biggest musical influences are Damien Rice and The Goo Goo Dolls. James says ” The reason I love doing this so much is that I get the chance to communicate my feelings, emotions, thoughts and life with others; It’s like a journey and I’m loving every single day of it!”. With him only being 16 this is just the beginning and supporting him would mean the world to him. Definitely keep an eye on this boy, he’s bound to go far and make a name for himself.
