A Look At The Unofficial (And Only) VersaEmerge Fan Club

Article By: Priscilla Basilio (Guest Writer)
Ever since VersaEmerge signed with Fueled By Ramen, at the end of last year, their fan following has grown immensely. They’ve released a self titled EP under FBR (the second one for the band) and are now working on a full length album. They have already toured with artists such as We The Kings, The Cab, The Color Fred, There For Tomorrow and Craig Owens to name a few. They even played UK’S Give It A Name in 2009 and will be on Vans Warped Tour all summer.
If that isn’t enough to get your attention, just listen to lead singer Sierra Kusterbeck’s powerful voice layered on top of instrumental, dark, ass-kicking tracks that also sound very fitting on a movie score. Needless to say, VersaEmerge definitely does not sound like any other cookie-cutter pop punk band out there.
VersaEmerge (affectionately known as VE by fans) is the newest bands to sign to Fueled By Ramen, so they do not have an official fan club yet. That hasn’t stopped fans from supporting their favorite band and creating the first ever unofficial VersaEmerge Fan Club. Twenty one year old Chris Schneider started up the unofficial fan club on December of 2008 out of Stuttgart, Germany. He got in contact with the band to get their okay and “they were super super honored, they sent me their bios back within few hours”. The site already has 182 registered members and is growing rapidly despite not being advertised on any of the band’s official pages.

Chris actually was able to get fans over by posting an entry on the official VersaEmerge LiveJournal community and handing out flyers after shows in London. On the website, fans can get the latest info on the band, read exclusive member biographies and go on the very active message board to talk to fellow fans who share the same taste in music, movies and books. Bekka, 16, from Newcastle, UK says the reason why she likes participating on the board is because “it’s not just a great chance to find out information that you didn’t know about the band, but you get a chance to talk to people with the same interests as you, be an active member of a group and help other people out.” She found out about the website because a lot of bands signed to Fueled By Ramen have an official fan club, “so I simply typed ‘VersaEmerge fan club’ into Google and I found it, glad that I did as well,”.
Cameron, an 18-year old from Florida, agrees with the fact that fans can talk to others about every subject, not just band related. He brings up another cool aspect of the board, “there’s a certain joy felt in racking up posts and seeing under your user name how many posts you’ve made. You start to feel like you’re making your ‘mark’ on the site after posting a lot, and just getting to that first 100 posts feels like an accomplishment,”. Cameron joined after seeing a post about it on VersaEmerge’s LiveJournal. The owner of the fan club met up with the entire band on their European tour and they were all really excited to hear of the success of the website, even drummer Anthony Martone’s aunt posts on the board! Chris says he really doesn’t know if VersaEmerge will get their own official fan club managed by FBR but says “I will do what I can to become the official fan club, and this fan club will be always for free,”.
